The reason why we stay in Sami on the previous night is due to its proximity to the Drogharati and Melissnai caves. Early in the morning we depart for our days visit of the caves. Melissani is a subterranean seawater cave, which acquires a turquoise color when the sun reaches a certain point. Equally spectacular is Drogharatu cave with its impressive stalactites and excellent acoustics that is sometimes used for concerts.

This is approximately 4 hour trek with magnificent views of the sea. The route can be a bit slippery in parts and at times you will be walking on high paths. A hat and plenty of water is required as the route is shad less. Upon approach of the spring the trek becomes downhill and requires some scrambling across rock fields.
